The drought that we’re currently experiencing in the Western Cape province of South Africa is a great concern to many of us. I am particularly conscious of every drop of water I use and try to work with this precious resource as sparingly as possible.
So in recognition of National Water Week, an awareness campaign by the Department of Water and Sanitation, I’ve designed a limited-edition art print around this issue.
The tongue-in-cheek message “If it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown, flush it down” is a call to action. Think twice before you flush, because a single flush uses as much as 11 litres of clean drinking water!
It was while I was on holiday last December that I saw this quote – in the toilet of a bush bar in Infanta to be exact! – and thought it was just so clever. What a fun way to make a point about a serious issue. So I came home and illustrated it. Put the water wise print in a quirky frame and it will make the perfect decor item for your loo or bathroom.
I only made 20 so hurry before they sell out… and save water before that runs out!
