Have you ever heard of that famous South African saying, “soort soek soort”? This doesn’t just apply to one’s romantic interests but also to life in general. What about this one, “what you think, you become”? These sayings exist because people experience similar things in this rollercoaster of a thing called life. And the general consensus is this: thoughts become things.
If you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed, you’ll notice that nothing seems to go your way for the rest of the day. If you wake up feeling on top of the world, not much can get you down because of the positivity surrounding you. This is a prime example of attracting things into your life, whether you’re on autopilot or very much aware of it.
It’s hard to believe that anyone would be content with living their lives on autopilot, unaware of their own feelings and thoughts and ignorant to the things they subsequently attract. That’s why, in the past decade, we have seen a global boom in the practice of “the law of attraction”. People are waking up to the fact that even though uncontrollable factors exist in the world that can bring about experiences you didn’t ask for, but in the same token, we can get familiar with controllable factors in our lives and learn to attract wonderful things to us through visualisation and a bit of effort. And it’s simpler than you might think. Here are 5 steps to effectively starting to visualise and manifest the life you want:
Step 1: Know what you want
One of the biggest reasons why you’re not manifesting great things into your life is because you do not know what you want. How can you visualise something you can’t comprehend? Get to know yourself a bit better through journaling, picking up a new hobby and spending time with friends and family who can give you valuable insight into who you are and what they know you enjoy. Once you’ve got a better grasp on the things that make you happy and the things you want more of, you can start visualising your life once you’ve got it.
Step 2 : Describe your vision in detail
This is a super important step. When you want to manifest the life you want, you have to create a clear vision of what it should look like. You can start by writing this down in detail or you could create a vision board (do we need another excuse to buy our favorite magazines?). This will help you to create a clear picture of what you want in your life.
Step 3: Visualise, visualise, visualise
Once you have a clear idea of what it is you want, you can take a few moments out of each day to start envisioning the actual outcome. Visualise the sights, the sounds, the smells and even the taste of what it is you’re wanting. The biggest part of this is allowing the emotions attached to the outcome to flow through you. Your mind and body now become familiar with having. When you’re in this space, there is the certainty that you have manifested your goals. That certainty starts the process of creation!
Step 4: Put the work in
Nothing in life can be achieved through non-action. And the same stands for your journey in visualising and manifesting the things you want in your life. You need to be taking small steps each day to encourage the creation process. Enquire about that car you’ve always wanted. Be brave enough to attend that next singles event. Touch up your CV and put it out there for a recruiter to see. The trick is essentially not controlling the ‘how’ but just putting yourself out there enough for the dots to start connecting themselves.
Step 5: Byt vas (keep going)!
In life, we are always faced with challenges. In fact, one proactive thing you can do to overcome these in your visualisation journey is to imagine yourself facing inevitable challenges and overcoming them. Ask yourself: What would help overcome the unforeseen challenges that lie ahead? If it’s chocolate, make sure you have a secret stash in your pantry!
